Sorry for the lag! The photos from Don’t Take Vaccines are up. A lot of the work has sold, but there’s a bunch left. Don’t sleep on Nick’s work or you’ll regret it later, take my word for it, the kid’s got talent and he’s on the move. Buy now while it’s affordable.

Meighan is in town from Boston and posted up some shots from the opening of Doodles show @ N&P on Friday. Check ‘em out over at My Love for You (we’ll be posting pics soon too, keep your pants on).

This Monday April 12, at 7PM – Needles & Pens presents, Microcosm Publishing’s multi-faceted west coast multimedia tour! …This is not to be missed!

“This April the Post-Punk Extravaganza tour will feature traveling vegan chef/author Joshua Ploeg doing a “cooking show” from his book In Search of the Lost Taste as well as making some interesting vegan snacks for all. Joe Biel will be showing the Plan-It X Records Documentary, If It Ain’t Cheap, It Ain’t Punk!, and doing Q&A, and setting up a well-stocked zine/book table. Also, Mia Partlow and Michael Hoerger of the upcoming Edible Secrets book and the brand-new Curious Case of the Communist Jell-o Box poster zine will be showing up with a mobile museum and document library on the fascinating secret history of food and espionage.

Thanks to all that came out last night were merry. The opening reception for Don’t Take Vaccines was a grand affair.
…After spending 3 days and nights in the gallery, Breezy and I came in and looked behind the curtain to find Nick covered in paint and charcoal. He looked like some kind of desperate chimney sweep, but, the walls were covered with amazing murals and installation pieces. Doodles really out did himself this time.

Nick Mann (aka Doodles) is San Francisco based street artist who’s eye grabbing work can be simply described as modern day folk art (only it’s not that simple). His creations are a complicated combination of delicately wheat-pasted pieces of paper, gritty spray paint, and eerie neon nordic creatures. He’s “shown” on gallery walls and on the sides of buildings around the world. Nick, in a nutshell, is the anonymous person that pasted up that beautiful character that you admire everyday as you ride the bus to work.

At a recent zine making residency at British Columbia’s Islands Fold, Luke Ramsey described Nick and his work by saying, “He gives us hope, because with conscious, smart, free spirited, funny and positive people like Nick- the world is a beautiful place to be.”

We’ve finally got around to updating the upcoming shows in the gallery section of the site. There’s some exiting stuff coming down the pike starting in late March/early April – we’ve got a solo show going up by the super talented emerging SF street artist Nick Mann (aka Doodles), followed by a group show featuring all Brazilian artists curated by the talented Ms. Pacolli, and then in June it’s party time! N&P will be celebrating 7 YEARS of EXISTENCE with a mega group show entitled LUCKY No. 7!
